GHS Connect #1 Monday 14th September

Mia's notes

Welcome back properly, now that we've all settled in. It has been a very positive start back to term with systems well in place and children appearing to be happy.

Walkarounds school are showing good focus in lessons, but please be aware of the odd child who appears disengaged and address it as quickly as possible.  Please also remember that if it is hot and stuffy in rooms, it's best to open all windows and that students are allowed to take their blazers off if they want to.

Please see Andrea's reminders about learning and teaching below to support with our plan to get greater consistency in the use of the GHS High 5.

Have a great week,

Mia

Learning and Teaching Tips and Strategies

This term, we are introducing the Learning Cycle to provide a shared structure for effective learning and teaching around the school.

The focus is not simply on following the cycle, but on making deliberate choices about how each stage is designed to best support learning.

Take a few minutes to reflect:

·         What has the cycle made you think differently about when planning a lesson?

·         How will you ensure that each stage has a clear purpose in your lesson?

·         Where are you making deliberate design choices within the cycle?

·         What is one stage of the cycle you want to strengthen this term?

Inclusion Messages

Inclusion

I hope you have all settled well into the first week back after the holidays.  Please do invest the time in getting to know your classes, understanding their needs, interests and establishing those positive relationships.

I would like to extend a special thank you to Fay for her exceptional work and dedication to this initiative. Additionally, a huge thank you all—your continuous support is what allows us to establish and sustain a truly inclusive culture across our school.

Bright Spot

This week's Bright Spot is Sukey Mathadu, and comes from Caroline Chamberlain, Headteacher at Edward Betham C of E Primary School, who has emailed to say:

Sukey is an absolute credit to your school...she has shown such compassion, sensitivity and kindness in all of her correspondence with us. The care and humanity with which she has handled an exceptionally difficult situation have really stood out. Sadly, our experience has not been the same with every high school we have approached, which has made Sukey’s kindness and understanding all the more appreciated.

Congratulations Sukey!
