GHS Connect #3 Monday 23rd September
Mia's notes
Myself, Amandip and others are now in the midst of exam meetings, and it never fails to impress me how much everyone is intent on working together as a team to do whatever it takes to maintain and improve the outcomes and life chances for our students. I am also humbled by the detailed knowledge that everyone has about their individual students; their situation, strengths and barriers and how we might try to overcome them. Thank you to everyone for the deep reflection about last year's achievements and the extensive plans for this coming year.
I started the year off talking about how we wanted to instil pride in our community. Thanks to everyone’s efforts so far, we are beginning to make strides already. Much better uniform, fewer behaviour incidents and evidence of an outstanding focus on our basics when I have undertaken walks around the school. Thank you for such a great start.
Have a great week everyone,
Mia

Learning and Teaching - Pride in our Classrooms
A round up of some of the great learning and teaching strategies we’ve noticed being used around school recently...
|
|
Dipa Pindoria purposefully circulates by live marking as she visits different tables. She uses this as an opportunity to provide further support, clarify misconceptions or provide additional challenge where necessary.
|
|
Rola Harb is deliberate with intonation and tone in order to engage students. Her enthusiasm was infectious as students mirrored it, which created a positive classroom atmosphere.
|
|
Joseph Khako purposefully circulates by choosing a table to sit and work with during a practice activity. This provides additional support as well as builds positive relationships with students.

SEN Information
Some of our SEN students have barriers may impact on their learning. These barriers could be:
- Difficulty with new teachers
- Difficulty getting started
- Difficulty remaining on task
- Difficulty staying organised and finding the resources that they need.
It is therefore vital that we know who the SEN students are in our classrooms so that we can adapt our teaching to support them. We could do this by:
- Sitting them near the front so we can prompt
- Sitting them near a student who can support with organisation
- Checking in with them first before starting a task
- Getting to know their interests and, where possible, including them in lessons to keep them engaged.

Pupil Premium Information
Overview KS3 & KS4
We are awaiting data regarding Year 7 PP cohort.
Where to find information regarding PP students?
|
|
|
Getting to know your PP students
- Know who your PP students are. Use SIMs, MINT or the PP tracker to identify PP students within your lesson.
- Try to understand their background by ensuring excellent relationships between the student and the teacher. Ask year teams for any additional information that can be shared with staff, such as friendship groups, likes or dislikes, hobbies, family heritage etc.
- Support students by overcoming any barriers to learning. Ensure that they are “ready” for your lessons with the correct equipment.
- Email HAV and the relevant year team with any requests for items such as:
- Pencil case – pens, pencils, highlighters etc.
- Maths Set.
- Maths Scientific Calculator.
- Revision cards.
- Files and organisers.
- Uniform.
- PE Kit.
- Subject specific equipment.
If you require any of the above or have any questions or suggestions, please email me – mharvey@greenford.ealing.sch.uk

Child Protection Update from Andrew Hall
This time of year parents all over the country will be focusing on their children. Whether they're going to school for the first time, or they're seasoned educational veterans, the same feeling will fill parents and guardians. A feeling of concern for the year ahead but also excitement and pride that they're embarking on the same journey, they themselves made years prior. In recent years it has become a tradition to post 'back to school' content, to Facebook and Instagram. However, this practice comes with unseen dangers. Over on his blog Wayne Denner has written about this issue extensively, in a short but worthwhile read he exposes some of the potential issues, lurking in the e-space. If interested, please follow the link below:

Inclusion Heroes
This week I would like to celebrate the feedback received from staff on the Teaching Assistant Team. The TAs are actively supporting students in the classroom, sharing ideas with staff and enabling our pupils to settle well into routines. Thanks very much for all the positive feedback.
