GHS Connect #28 Monday 13th May
Mia's notes
Well done and thank you to everyone who has been involved in supporting the exams this week. It feels as if we have made a really great start.
Thank you so much to the Post 16 team and especially Hebe for organising what was a wonderful Year 13 Leavers’ assembly. Amidst the fun and celebration, there were some strong, key messages that were given - important messages for life, not just exams. More importantly, thank you and well done to everyone who has supported this cohort through the last, for many, 7 years. It’s the end of an era for them, and what an era it has been with 2 massively disrupted years due to Covid and the subsequent fallout afterwards. It’s humbling to think that for many of them, Greenford High School and their teachers will have been a constant source of support and consistency during these times.
Another week and another SLT promotion! Well done to Kelly McCarthy who has been appointed as Deputy Headteacher at Elthorne Park High School, in a different part of the borough. We all know that this is very much deserved and Kelly will do a great job.
Have a great week,
Mia

Learning and teaching: Embedding Excellence
A round up of some of the great learning and teaching strategies we’ve noticed being used around school recently...
Suzanne Hughes uses regular time reminders to maintain pace and motivate students during an activity. Her lessons have a very supportive atmosphere where students are encouraging of one another and even celebrate the successes of their opponent teams!
Hina Padhra bridges the gap to independence by signposting students to tutorials that they can watch for additional support and scaffolding during independent work. All students were engaged and enthusiastic about the task.
Christabel Haines uses data obtained during circulation to pause an activity and address common misconceptions with the whole class (responsive teaching). A-Level students said that her explanations are always clear and easy to follow. They expressed that she is always able to make otherwise challenging content accessible at A-Level.
Buchi Anyamah uses modelled examples and cold-calling to co-construct answers. Students commented that these are helpful in breaking down challenging questions. Students were motivated and there was a real buzz of enthusiasm in the classroom!

The Final Year 11 Push
Year 11 have now started their external exam season, after two years of hard work towards their GCSEs. Lessons will run as normal until Thursday 23rd May, when Year 11 students go on study leave. After this time, students only come in for their exams or for their final drop-down sessions. The schedule of these sessions is linked in last week’s Year 11 achievement newsletter and can be found on the shared Google drive. Along with final revision sessions, we have Saturdays 11th and 18th May, and Tuesday and Wednesday of half-term, where selected students will be invited in. Finally, during morning exams, the canteen will be opened for students from 8am, where they will be able to have a light breakfast and a place to revise.
Please extend a thank you to families for their support over the last five years, especially over the last two years during GCSEs.

Inclusion Heroes
I wanted to say a huge thank you to all staff for supporting the Inclusion Review and allowing us into your lessons. Adam Brazier from the local authority was very impressed by what he saw.
