GHS Connect #27 Tuesday 7th May

Mia's notes

I hope everyone has had a lovely, long weekend. Just the odd day can make a really big difference to re-charging the batteries and it will be nice to have a shorter week.

Thank you to everyone who is making a really big effort with Meet and Greet and End and Send. It feels as if Meet and Greet remains more natural to us all, while End and Send is easy to forget. Let’s all try and get into the habit of doing this as much as possible, as it will not only help with corridor behaviour but also help with our continued push to try to change the overall culture of behaviour in the school.

Many of you will be aware that Lou Grimley has been appointed as the Head of Woodbridge Park Education Service, Hounslow, a multi-site Alternative Provision, where she will be leading 4 heads of school. I’m sure you will join me in congratulating her on this huge success, which she will begin in September.

Speaking of Deputy Headteachers, Ajay Balu, who was appointed before the holidays, will be starting with us from 3rd June and I know everyone will make him very welcome as he begins his journey with us at Greenford, and gets to know how things work at our school.

Have a lovely, shorter week!

Mia

Learning and teaching: Embedding Excellence

A round up of some of the great learning and teaching strategies we’ve noticed being used around school recently...

Tom Oseku-Afful motivates students by allowing them only to sit down once they have answered a retrieval question correctly. Students were enthusiastic to rise to the challenge and were encouraging of one another- a very positive climate for learning!

Rubina Iqbal provides high quality revision support though scaffolded and focused revision booklets which help students to organise ideas clearly. Students said that they were feeling confident about their exams and stated “it’s hard not to be when we have Miss as a teacher”.

Amandeep Phull maintains a calm and focused classroom where every student was engaged in completing the whiteboard question with enthusiasm. There was constructive and focused peer talk to compare answers and offer peer support.

Tracey Cleave has created these wonderful reward cards for her students. When a student does something excellent in Geography, they receive a card and scratch off the silver panel to reveal their prize! Tracey’s students value these and feel valued because of the time, effort and thought that Tracey has put into this… and her lessons!

Parent Connect

At the start of this academic year, we launched Parent Connect, a fortnightly newsletter that is sent to all of our families to keep them updated on what is going on at GHS. There are regular reminders about key dates coming up, who to contact if there is any issue, who the Safeguarding Team are, and so on, along with bits and pieces about visits, news, top tips, parental courses, and anything else that might have cropped up.

It would be really good to get as many contributions to Parent Connect as we can, as well as information about all the amazing things that are going on in the school – if you are running something, organising something, working on a project, or would like to get a message out, please email me to let me know. And, please accompany what you would like to include with a photo or graphic, if possible, which can be placed in the Google Shared Drive> Photography & Communications>Parent Connect

Have a look at the school website to see past editions of Parent Connect and see what you think!

Lou

This week the news has covered information around young boys becoming vulnerable to sextortion.  Below are the processes criminals might go through.

Inclusion Heroes

This week I would like to thank all the CP team and attendance team that were involved in supporting the Safeguarding review with Aimee Quinn.

Please note that on Tuesday 7th May we are part of an Inclusion Review led by Adam Brazier from the local authority.  As part of the review we will be undertaking a number of learning walks around the school site, no preparation required from staff, but a huge thank you in advance if we pop into your classrooms!
