GHS Connect #14 Monday 18th December

Mia's notes

Not much from me today - just to say a massive thank you to everyone for a great term!

Whatever your contribution to the school, whether you are working as support staff to keep us all going behind the scenes, supporting students pastorally, leading a department or area, or teaching wonderful lessons day in day out, everyone deserves a big pat on the back for helping us to have such a successful autumn term!

Please do have a really lovely, restful break and I look forward to seeing everyone in January.

A reminder that we will meet on Thursday at 12:45pm in the hall.

Have a great (shorter) week,

Mia

Learning and teaching: Embedding Excellence

A round up of some of the great learning and teaching strategies we’ve noticed being used around school recently...

Serena Hayes supports students to access the task by providing key ideas, hints and tips whilst deconstructing graphs through ‘think alouds’.

Na’Rae Watson supports students to access the task by providing paragraph scaffolds for evaluative essays at A-Level.

Melanie Rosen promotes oracy by facilitating student ‘read alouds’ and class discussions.

Pravina Varsani promotes oracy through small group debates ahead of independent work.

Action Research Groups: A HUGE thank you!

The Learning and Teaching Team just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone who participated in the Action Research sessions last week. The energy in the sessions was warm and positive; great academic discussions about pedagogy were being had and there was a really excellent atmosphere of supportive sharing in all the groups.

Thank you to all of our Research Leads who have taken such care to personalise the sessions with homemade props and tailored research and to all colleagues who contributed by showcasing changes to their practice.

This is quite exceptional at the end of a very long term when colleagues are, understandably, fatigued.  It felt like a lovely learning community and a great note to finish the term on.

Merry Christmas!

Kelly

Inclusion Updates

Please take a look at the upcoming Parent Workshops from the Ealing Mental Health Team using this link.

In addition to this, the SEN Department will be running a Year 11 Student and Parent workshop on Thursday 11th January. The aim of the session is to provide tools to help our parents/guardians establish good routines, gain a deeper understanding of the interims, and learn revision strategies to support their children at home.

Christmas Jumper Day Reminder: Donation of Christmas Jumpers

If anyone has any children’s Christmas Jumpers at home and you are willing to donate these, please can you bring them along to AF15, so we can try and distribute them to our PP students.

Inclusion Heroes

A huge thank you to all Year Teams across the school. Their continual resilience, support and dedication has helped many of our students to make progress academically, emotionally, and socially.

Bright Spots

The past few weeks have been busy for the PE department, with 8 practical PE exams being run alongside all the usual fixtures, KS3 assessments, clubs and lessons.

During this time, our PE teachers have gone above and beyond in running sessions, grading students, covering each other’s lessons and doubling up in all sorts of strange teaching spaces to ensure our curriculum isn’t impacted.

I feel very fortunate to work with such dedicated, adaptable and professional colleagues.

Paul
