GHS Connect #2 Monday 18 September

Mia's notes

I hope everyone had a great weekend.

Thank you to what has, in the main, been an excellent start back. The new systems seem to be embedding in well with students taking them seriously. None of this would be possible without staff following procedure and reminding students regularly - thank you to everyone who has been so on board with all of this!

Remember:

  • A = AM late and ‘After School Detention.’
  • L = ‘Late to Lessons’ and ‘Lunchtime Detention.’

Thank you especially to Jayne, who has been running the new systems in Student Services and to our pastoral teams who have stepped up to be around and about everywhere, on lots of different rotas, keeping everything running smoothly. Behaviour in assemblies has also been outstanding, and this is testament to the high expectations that Year teams are setting.

Post 16 have also had an excellent start, and I’d like to thank the whole team for everything that they have been doing - a huge amount of work is involved in enrolling and getting timetables sorted for new Year 12s, and then there is all of the pastoral work that we can sometimes forget is so important with Post 16 students.

Finally, a massive thank you to Alan Masters who has been exceptionally busy behind the scenes sorting out all sorts of things related to SIMS, timetabling and rotas. We’d be lost without you, Alan!

Have a good week, everyone.

Mia

Learning and Teaching: ABC

Thank you to all colleagues who are really pushing the ABC strategies in their classroom from the beginning of term.

To help students ACCESS text, exam questions or difficult concepts, images can be really powerful.

If you want students to work more independently, help BRIDGE to this but using talk frames for oracy (visible on the board in this photo) or sentence stems for writing.

Remember that CHECKING student learning is a great opportunity to praise or to correct misconceptions.

Learning and teaching: Embedding Excellence

A round up of some of the great learning and teaching strategies we’ve noticed being used around school recently...

Katherine Zoghbi using choral response to bridge the gap to independence by co-constructing sentences. She promoted oracy by asking students to “Say It Again, Better” for pronunciation.

Samuel Merchant building relationships and creating a positive classroom environment through a “getting to know each other” task.

Inclusion Updates

This is a big thank you from the CP Team to everyone for embracing CPOMS so brilliantly and to continue logging their concerns on it. If there are any issues, please contact GRI or NAY. And, this is a reminder to staff to check the VLE for the Child Protection and Welfare Training presentations.
