GHS Connect #1 Monday 11 September
Mia's notes
Welcome back to another week and I do hope that the first week went well for everyone.
It will be a short ‘Connect’ this week with business as usual next week; this week will just be a few key reminders.
We had some great INSET this year, so I just want to thank everyone who was involved in planning and delivering that. Thank you also to everyone for such a positive response to the CPD - there were some great ideas shared and some really helpful collaborative discussions. As I said last week, we want a real focus on Learning and Teaching this year, so here’s a quick reminder of the 5 priorities for this year:
-
Fully embed ABC strategies to support progress of all students
-
Ensure Google Classroom and SMHW are used as standard to store resources and set homework.
-
Support students to value their workbooks through monitoring, organisation and feedback.
-
Experiment with activities which will increase student motivation (this includes drilling and retrieval practice).
-
Increase oracy opportunities in your classroom; have high expectations of these and consider the skills needed.
The Basics
A reminder of our push on ‘the basics’.
Punctuality
As from Monday, if students arrive after the second bell, please tell them they will have a 15 minute lunchtime detention which they should go to straightaway. Unless they are in Year 7, they should not get lunch first - they should make their way straight to the lecture theatre. They will be allowed to get lunch afterwards.
If they do not attend their lunchtime detention, they will be collected during Period 6 to be taken to a 30 minute after school detention.
Uniform
Our aim is for no child to cross the gate without correct uniform on. Students will be taken to ‘Student Services’ to be equipped with correct uniform where required. If they then have incorrect uniform on in the day, please log this and nag them, as there is no excuse!
Thank you to everyone who is already pushing on this with reminders to students.
Finally, a really massive thank you to the Year 7 and Post 16 teams for the excellent induction days that were run last week. The Post 16 team have also been working incredibly hard in enrolling students which is a HUGE task. Thank you so much to them for this real slog - it is very much appreciated!
Have a great week everyone,
Mia
