GHS Connect #29 Tuesday 9 May

Mia's notes

Welcome back after another long weekend. I hope that everyone had a lovely time.

Thank you very much to everyone for your exceptionally hard work in this final push as we move towards exam season. It can be a stressful time for everyone, staff and students alike, but as I said in last week’s Connect, the important thing to focus on at this time is drilling the key concepts that will be most beneficial to students. Information overload should be avoided at this stage.  They can’t now know it all, if they don’t already, but they can hone what they do know along with a few other new nuggets for bonus marks!

This week, I also wanted to draw everyone’s attention to some KS3 reminders that Amandeep Phull has been working on:

  • Year 7- ‘3 B4 ME’. This is an excellent way to encourage students to do three things before they ask you for help.
  • Equipment - please remind students about their equipment. With lots of end of year assessments taking place, it is vital they are organised.
  • Showmyhomework- please upload all the information students need to access their homework. If you could spend a few minutes in your lessons getting them started, they are more likely to complete it. This gives them an opportunity to ask any questions.

KS3 Study Space - this runs Monday to Thursday from 3:10-4:00pm CG13

Have a lovely week,
Mia

Learning and teaching: Spotted!

A round up of some of the great learning and teaching strategies we’ve noticed being used around school recently...

Hina Padhra developing digital literacy by uploading each week’s lesson tasks on to Google Classroom. Students commented that it was very helpful when they had been absent, as they could look through material in advance of their return, which made the reintegration smoother.

Emmet Waterhouse using scaffolded essay planning sheets and example paragraphs to bridge the gap towards independent essay writing.

Hibatallah Hijazi promoting career opportunities and aspirational figures within the profession by embedding this into curriculum tasks.

Hebe Westcott checking understanding by using brain dump group revision starters whereby each table has a different idea/theme to feed back on.

Character Points on SMHW

Thank you to everyone who has been active in recording Character points and behaviour on Show My Homework.

I’ve had some lovely chats with students around school, whose parents have been pinged with Character Point notification – one said he got more chicken than his sister for dinner because of it! ??

If you haven’t started, what are you waiting for?

It is so quick, so easy and delivers great results for promoting positive behaviour. See Rav's how to video to see just how easy it is.

Inclusion Heroes

This week’s Inclusion Hero goes to Hemal Odedra – not only does he work tirelessly with our Year 11 cohort, supporting them at this particularly pressurised time, but he also took a group of some of the Year 11 boys to present to the colleagues from across the borough about a project he has been running with them, MVP. Thank you, Hemal, for everything you do for them!
