GHS Connect #22 Monday 27 February

Mia's notes

Thank you very much for your hard work and support in the first week back at Year 9 Parents’ Evening. I wasn’t able to wander around the two halls on this occasion, as I was actually seeing my own Year 9 class, but from what I could see, it seemed to go very well again and attendance looked great.
Thank you also to everyone who has been supporting with mock exams this week. In the main the Year 11s have been great, although there have been a few who have been struggling. Thank you, as ever, for everything that everyone does to make these pressure points a success - from the exams team, the pastoral teams, the caretaking teams and the teaching staff, it’s a real team effort that we always deliver on so well.
This week sees the next scheduled NEU strike, and as with last time, I’m sure that Jo and Katharine will provide further details. I will be writing to our parents today and outlining our plans for the day. As with last time, we will be opening the school partially, and further details will be provided on the VLE this week.  Please remember that if you do not come in that day, you will be considered to be striking, and if you do come in, you will need to sign in, in order to get paid.
As a result of the strike day, we will not run SLT Coffee, Cake and Chat on Thursday, but will look to reschedule this.

Rewards

Rewards are important, they act as a ‘carrot’ or incentive for the masses (the is a small minority who don’t care – focus on the mass). It also allows us as professionals to develop a callout culture which in turn builds the character we want to see in our students as well as each other. Have a look at some interesting figures relating to character/rewards… 

Since September you have given an astounding 172686 Character points (144544 in 21/22)

Inclusion Heroes

This week’s Inclusion Hero is going to be shared in 3 ways – firstly, I want to say a big thank you to the Science Department for amazing lessons across the board with Year 10 on Wednesday morning. I visited every single class, and the learning environment in each was fantastic. Secondly, another big thank you to the Year 9 Team and Andrea for Parents Evening last night. Seamlessly organised and a pleasure to meet so many of my students’ families. And, lastly, a big PSHCE thank you to everyone! I tried to get around to as many lessons as I could yesterday and was really impressed with what I saw across the board.
