Remote learning: Google Classroom tips with Georgina
Colleagues have commented over the last few weeks that some students continue to struggle to understand tasks set for them remotely, without a teacher to guide them through as we normally would. Below, Georgina gives us three tiny tweaks that she has noticed really help her son Lachlan engage with tasks.
Lachlan’s Top tips for Setting Work on Google Classroom
One of the things my son Lachlan finds tricky is when there is a lot of information in the instructions part of the assignment, along with a lot of different attachments so he has to keep switching back between the attachments and instructions. This often results in an outburst of frustration, if you know what I mean!
1) To overcome this for my own students, when I set work, I do not really put any instructions in the ‘Instructions’ part of Google Classroom as all information is on the worksheets or slides. In ‘Instructions’ on GC, I usually just write:
1. Watch video
2. Complete worksheet
3. Submit by Weds 13th May
2) To ensure all instructions are super clear on the resource, I clearly number, underline and bold each task:
Task 1
Task 2
Task 3
3) For each task, I write a short sentence which starts with a verb (in bold):
Research … on the internet and list 3 facts about ....
Answer these 6 questions about...
Write 5 sentences about …
Draw and label ….
Keep up the good work with Google Classroom!
